What IS FASCIA?

Fascia is connective tissue throughout our entire body surrounding muscles, nerves, and organs. Healthy Fascia contains lots of water that allows our fascia to slide, glide, and supports movement. The water in our tissues helps separate “sticky” collagen fibers and activation of the receptors helps keep our body pain free.

HOW CAN FASCIA BE PAINFUL?

Again, the importance of hydration AND movement…. When fascia is dehydrated or either from moving or repetitive use, the fibers start to stick together and this can form adhesions or knots, which can result in decreased flexibility and mobility. Resulting in…… PAIN

CAN I FIX MYSELF AND HELP MY PAIN LEVELS?

No surprise here, first and foremost, drink more water! This is one of those common-sense tips, but it is easy to fall behind on. I try to remember the 8X8 rule. Eight 8oz. Of water a day. Simple.

However, at least in my sore joint body, I find daily stretching combined with if, possible foam rolling helps me the most with physical pain because you are stretching tissue and creating space between the fibers, which breaks up knots as well. Also with consistent stretching and rolling, your day to day activities will be done with less pain. For me, the time on the floor stretching is like a mini yoga/meditation session which has the added benefit of de-stressing.
